2007 + 2013
As Australia’s largest regional art gallery, this significant and sympathetic intervention into the structure of the historic town hall explores the layers of history embedded within the building. Significantly the gallery now has a functional and visual connection to the administration area, linking previously separated components. Externally the fabric of the historic town hall façade was re-discovered with the use of heritage colours, while internally a unifying grey backdrop colour has been developed to heighten display of the gallery’s artwork. A new Darcy Doyle exhibition space was also developed to display the works of one of the region’s most notable artists.
