Spring Hill, Brisbane
Suffering extensive fire-damage following an arson attack in 2008, this building was in desperate need of some TLC. Despite the damage, this building was worth restoring as it is an integral part of Brisbane's character. Many original features were retained, and damage was fixed using materials recycled from other parts of the house or sourced from elsewhere. This was part of a sustainable approach to ensure that as little was wasted as possible. The house also has solar-panels and water tanks. Parts of the house were opened up, and new louvre windows installed, allowing the house to breathe again. New details have been added to augment its existing character and history, giving this old house a new lease of life while retaining its character.
