As this building houses many branches of the communities emergency services, themes naturally emerged that are imbued in the façade and front landscape composition. The perforated screens that shield and protect the building are symbolic of ‘vigilance’ and ‘strength’. The original commission of the facade treatment was subsequently extended to incorporate the landscape design. The architectural lines of the building are reinforced and complimented with the placement of garden beds, and landscape plant species selected for texture, colour, and seasonal change to create a flame-like composition, and to reinforce the notion of movement. Black pebbles have been placed adjacent to the building with grass and garden beds interspersed between the building and the footpath to allow the contrast of the drought hardy plants to be accentuated as the plane of the ground gently slopes towards the street.
